what kind of RAM do you have? the highest that Motherboard will hold is PC2-5300, DDR2-667 with a max of 2GB per stick, but if they're higher, they should still run at the highest the Mobo will handle

In order to use more than 3g of ram, you will need to be running a 64bit version of windows. Thats it.

You can install it, and it shouldn't blue screen you, but you cant actually use it without a 64 bit version

Acer m5100 is a manufacturer of the computer you have. What is the motherboard that is in it? Once you have that, you can find the bios upgrade.

It still sounds to me like you have memory installed that will not work in your system. Also, you have to be sure that you have 2 sticks of the same memory in each pair of dimm slots. You cant slot different memory together.

if it works in safe mode, then it's probably one of the Drivers that you are loading in normal windows, maybe the Motherboard's Chipset Drivers?

Other than that, find the same model on Acer's website and there should be a Bios download, that's usually the most recent one

Default time for a new comp

sounds like your computter needs a new mother board that is expandable and most package comps are not built to be expanded.

one more thing you might wanna try (if you haven't already) is there a setting in the BIOS possibly to turn off Dual Channel for the RAM? Usually it's on by default but sometimes it's just automatic...

The best way to approach this is to provide us / me with a spitout of your system. To do this, I'll need you to load up windows and goto start-> Run and type dxdiag then then hit ok.

This will go through your system and provide all information regarding it; Bios, memory, CPU, Videocard, drivers, DirectX version, etc.

Provide the text file that it generates here.

About that bios, that's a custom Bios from Phoenix Awards, and I don't believe there is one for your specific system.
