Default The Lore Nook: Ask Lore Questions Here

Welcome to the Lore Nook. Do you want to know more about the storylines and "lore" of World of Warcraft? Then this is the place you want to be! Just ask a question, and I, or maybe someone else if they think they know the answer, will answer it! So ask away!

No, Illidan certainly had a crush on her, but she never returned his affections. During the War of the Ancients there was a love triangle between Tyrande, Malfuion and Illidan but Tyrande chose Malfurion and Illlidan's part in said triangle was almost entirely one-sided.

Illidan believed he was a better choice then his brother, Malfurion, because Illidan had more magical prowess and could fight better. His definition of fighting better though was slaughtering Demons of the Legion ruthlessly coupled with the choice of spells he used and his lack of regard for fellow members of the Moonguard.

Whatever happened to Lady Sinestra? I always loved how she swooped down out of nowhere and took her blood elf form when I was doing Netherwing quests.

Lady Sinestra is the main villain of the novel World of Warcraft: Night of the Dragon, she is also rumored to appear as the final boss of one of the raids in Cataclysm. I would recommend reading the novel, but if you don't want to I can tell you about her.

I probably should have added this,

Lady Sinestra's new model which was added in the most recent Cataclysm beta patch.

I knew I recognized the name, and now that it's mentioned I had completely forgot the name of the female who would appear and come order the Dragonmaw around regarding eggs. When the NDA was lifted and the closed Beta began, I was looking at some character models and saw her, and my only thoughts were of how much it made me think of Kil"Jaeden in the Sunwell Plateau.

I will be getting to the novel in time, I just finished reading the Lich King novel and will begin on the old Warcraft Archives (which includes the Day of the Dragons) and will possibly pick up the sequel, Night of the Dragons first thing when I finish the archives.

If I had the cash, the warcraft novels would definitely be something I'd like to read. I have this .. memory.. of Sinestra dying sometime between BC and Wrath .. no idea where I got that idea from.

I'd like to hear more about her, Dirti, if only because you provide such in-depth POVs on things. In your own time. And I'll keep my eye out for the book regardless.

I went and grabbed the rp event most people would know her from for all those who have forgotten or missed it.
Quote:
Lady Sinestra says: Overlord Mor'ghor, I presume... A pleasure to finally make your acquaintance. I am Lady Sinestra.
Overlord Mor'ghor says: I will not drag this out any further than it needs, Lady Sinestra. You have bent my ear, now tell me what it is that you want from the Dragonmaw.
Lady Sinestra says: You have no doubt heard about Nefarian's failures on Azeroth... While he has fallen, the experiment continues. My master... He continues the work that his progeny began.
Overlord Mor'ghor says: The... The master? He lives?

Lady Sinestra nods.
Lady Sinestra says: You were once a chief lieutenant, Mor'ghor. Your work in Grim Batol is not easily forgotten. Now... We need the eggs that you recovered. The Netherwing eggs. They are, after all, a product of the master. We will pay whatever price that you ask.
Overlord Mor'ghor stammers.
Overlord Mor'ghor says: Ye... Yes, yes... Of course. We need only the crystals and ore from this place. There is... We will need mounts.
Lady Sinestra says: The master will be most pleased with this news. The Black Dragonflight will provide you all that you ask. You will be allowed to ride upon the backs of our drakes as needed. I thank you for your graciousness, Mor'ghor. I must now take my leave.
Now all I know of her is that she was a consort of Neltharion (Deathwing) and the mother of Nefarion and Onyxia (they share the same ingame model in their dragon forms) and lots of things happen and she tries to pick up where they all left off in creating the most powerful dragonflight. I skimmed a bit of info since I haven't read the book yet and don't want to ruin everything for myself but she winds up succeeding in creating the Twilight Dragonflight but dies (ironically too).

I think it's after Chogall hardmode or something that the ground breaks open and you drop in an egg room that model for sinestra looks like it would go in the circle there.

Kids. Heh. I'm probably older than you.

I have a terrible memory. Last time I took books out from the library, I lost one, and forgot to return the others. I have such a large fine waiting for me, I never want to renew that card. lol.

Since most of us all enjoy Dirti's summaries and explanation of things, I do want to ask something.

I'm curious how Vashj, having been just a servant to Azshara during the whole war of the ancients fiasco etc. and the sundering happened leading into the birth of the Naga... What I'm curious about is what happened to Azshara, and what put Lady Vashj as the leader of sorts of the Naga (playing the role during Warcraft 3 as well as being the final boss in Serpentshrine Cavern during the Burning Crusade Expansion). Having not been very big on lore when I first came to this game for quite some time and having only started playing during TBC and missing out on most of the tier 5 content and skipping ahead into BT and SWP I never really understood what was up with Lady Vashj and how she's the big bad naga..

Lady Vashj was the child of (Name is hard to remember and I don't have access to the beta at the moment) Vashj, and grew up in the great night elven city of Vashj'ir. Eventually she became a servant of Queen Azshara herself. Along with the other doomed inhabitants of Zin'Azshari, she sank beneath the waves and was transformed into a naga.

10,000 years later Illidan Stormrage was up to some really bad stuff. Kil'jaeden had hired him to destroy the Lich King and he knew that the naga were some of the best magi alive. He, exactly how is never described, calls the naga from the tides as apparently they owe him a debt. Vashj is sent as the leader of this force of naga. The new army traveled to the ruins of Dalaran and began to channel a magical spell of immense power which would shatter the frozen throne and kill the Lich King. However said spell was a little too powerful and it nearly broke Azeroth into lots of little pieces.

Malfurion and Tyrande arrived and stopped Illidan, unwitting saving the Lich King, but the earthquakes had still done MASSIVE DAMAGE to Northrend, including the destruction of Yogg-Saron's prison. After that, Illidan realized that Kil'jaeden would certainly murder him.

Vashj and her naga went off and recruited Kael'thas and the blood elves to Illidan's cause and they together escaped to Outland. Illidan defeated the pit lord Magtheridon at the Black Temple and became the Lord of Outland. Kil'jaeden still managed to find him, and gave the half-night elf one last chance to kill the Lich King. So he, Kael'thas and Vashj, along with a sizable army of naga and blood elves, traveled to Icecrown.

The Lich King summoned his champion, Arthas to the Frozen Throne to fight off Illidan. He won and Illidan, Kael'thas and Vashj returned to Outland with their figurative (and in Vashj's case literal) tails between their legs. Knowing that Kil'jaeden would soon return for vengeance, Illidan began to fortify his position in Outland.

While Kael'thas was sent to Netherstorm with orders to seize control of the Naaru structures and magical energies there, Vashj and her naga were dispatched to Zangarmarsh. Water is a rare commodity in Outland and by controlling it's largest source of water, the denizens of Outland would be forced to bow before Vashj and Illidan or die of thirst.

The naga erected pumping stations where they began to gather all the water in Zangarmarsh into a single large lake. While it was never confirmed by Blizzard, it is strongly hinted that Illidan was planning to turn this lake into a new Well of Eternity. The fact that he entrusted Vashj with one of the remaining vials of the original well's water being the biggest clue.

Finally she was killed by some random heroes, her final words being "Lord Illidan, I... I am... sorry."

Thanks Dirti, just one piece still is missing that perhaps gets explained in Cataclysm? What happens to Azshara during the Sundering and the Well turning into the churning maelstrom it is now when the Naga transform?

If you haven't read the trilogy and do not want anything spoiled, don't read ahead. Otherwise go for it. Taken from The Sundering by Richard A. Knaak, third and final installment of the War of the Ancients trilogy.
Quote:
Around her, Azshara's handmaidens screamed. Vashj clung to her leg. The queen help her empty goblet, refusing to accept what was happening to her palace. She was Azshara, Light of Lights, supreme rule of her people! She had not permitted this!
Sargeras would not be coming. Azshara understood that, although she had not said so to her followers. It would not do to let them know that she realized that she had erred. Somehow, the rabble had kept him from coming to Kalimdor...from coming to her.
The rumbling grew louder. A darkness in which even night elves could not see suddenly enveloped the palace. The only illumination came from the untamed forces of the Well. Black water vegan pouring into the palace, washing away two of her servants. Their screams were quickly drowned out.
I am Azshara! she silently insisted, her expression constant. With but a thought the queen created a shield that surrounded her and those still remaining. My desires are absolute!
Her power kept the water at bay, but the pressure of maintaining her shield quickly grew troublesome. Azshara's brow furowed and beads of sweat - the first sweat of her life - appeared on her forehead.
Then...voices whispered from the gloom, voices calling to her, promising her escape.
There is a way...there is a way...you will become more than you ever were...more than you ever were...we can help...we can help...
The queen was no fool. She knew her shield would not last much longer. Then the Well would claim her and her followers and the glory that was Azshara would be lost to the world.
The silver-tressed night elf nodded.
"Ungh!" The goblet fell from her hand. Her body was wracked with pain. She felt her limbs twisting, curling. Her spine felt fluid, as if much of it had instantly melted away...
You will be more than you have ever been...promised the voices. And when the time comes, for what we grant you...you will serve us well...
The last vestiges of her shield spell failed. Azshara shrieked as the waters overwhelmed her. In the background, she heard other cries as well...her handmaidens, the guards, and the rest of the Highborne who still served her.
The Well filled her lungs...
But...she did not drown.
So the tricky old gods who whispered to her to use the Well which lead to all these events leading up to the War of the Ancients and in the end turned her and the Highborne into the Naga, Vashj included. Having their main goal always to be free of their prison and to take Azeroth back.... Does this leave Azshara underwater and she will not come into play until perhaps Cataclysm, or maybe Azshara will come into play in a later expansion dealing with more Old Golds, maybe something crazy happens like the old Gods get ahold of Sargeras as their tool like they planned since he was one of the Titans that helped fight them and imprison them before turning from all the other Titans....

p.s. mild excuse to pull out my comfy war of the ancients trilogy since I miss reading it, really fun to read but now I'm finishing up Day of the Dragons and will be moving to Lord of the Clans and The Last Guardian (I read the Lich King novel a few weeks back)

This post here is for Zamile. Whenever you read this, someday, do you remember when you, dirti, and myself were playing around in Silithus and Ahn'Qiraj and when we had landed there we saw those weird black crystals.....

Well I found out what that's all about, it's part of a quest chain and those black crystals show some history of Silithus and the Qiraji. The geologist lady tells what she learns from the crystals:
Quote:
Geologist Larksbane says: I will do my best to translate and describe what I see.

It is history.. A history of Silithus... of Ahn'Qiraj... of Titans and Old Gods... I read from the prophecy of C'Thun as written by the Qiraji Prophet Skeram. A prophecy that portends a cataclysm...

In the time before time, when the world was still in its infancy, a battle between a Titan and a being of unimaginable evil and power raged on this very soil. The prophecy is unclear about whether or not the Titan was vanquished in this battle but it illustrates that a Titan fell. An Old God had also fallen - or so it was thought.

For millennia this being lay dormant beneath the world - biding its time. From its prison it waited for the exact moment at which to strike back at those that would see it harmed.

The land of eternal starlight, Kalimdor, was a nurturing mother to all of its creatures. The magic of the Well of Eternity permeated the land and empowered the multitude of flora and fauna that would make the world their home. From this magical ether were born the silithid. It was throught the silithid that the brooding Old God would reach and attempt to sunder the world that it once held in its unmerciful grasp.

The Old God would create avatars from the silithid in its own image. These avatars were to be known as Qiraji. Sentient and with purpose, the Qiraji would name their creator: C'Thun was born... For many thousands of years the Qiraji worked feverishly to build a force capable of laying waste to the world that would betray their god. The great fortress city of Ahn'Qiraj was created to house their growing armies and prepare for the coming of C'Thun.

This can't be right. An Old God could never be allowed to enter this world. The results would be... Oh dear!

Geologist Larksbane regains her composure.

Gelogist Larksbane says: There is more.

The moment that C'Thun had so patiently waited for had finally arrived. His children had spent thousands of years building an army capable of exacting revenge upon the whole of Kalimdor and now the prize was within their grasp.

The Titans had long since vacated this world. Only the night elves that once inhabited this area were here to defend. Oh my! The next passage is fascinating!

A mighty Qiraji known as General Rajaxx would command the initial incursion into Silithus. Only one would stand in his way: A night elf known as Staghelm. They refer to him as Khar'sis or 'hand of the earth' in the native Qiraji tongue.

Staghelm and his armies were clearly overwhelmed as the endless flow of Rajaxx's troops poured into Silithus. It would seem as if Staghelm, however, was more than just a nuisance to the Qiraji. Under Staghelm, the whole of the night elf armies had come together to defend Kalimdor, greatly slowing the Qiraji forces.

Unfortunately, the night elf defense was untenable and Rajaxx knew that they could not hold out much longer. Their tenacity, however, was causing great frustration to Rajaxx and causing even more frustration to his king. Wait, kings? Incredible...

Vek'nilash and Vek'lor, known as the Twin Emperors of Ahn'Qiraj, watched the war from the sanctuary of their temple. The clever brothers devised a plan to demoralize and divide Staghelm's forces.

Valstann Staghelm served as the right hand of Fandral. A proud and noble warrior, his dedication and adoration for his father unyielding... and the Twin Emperors sensed this as weakness. A weakness that could be exploited.

The Qiraji forces were commanded to fall back and hide the bulk of their numbers beneath the sands of the desert. A small attack was ordered upon Southwind Village while the front lines of Staghelm's army were kept occupied.

Valstann, eager to please his father, convinced Fandral to allow him to take a small battalion to the defense of Southwind. Surely with the tide of battle turning their way, no harm could come to his beloved child. The trap was missed. Valstann was capture by the hiding Qiraji and Southwind Village obliterated. Rajaxx himself would take the captive Valstann to the front lines of the battle where - in front of Staghelm and the night elf forces - he would brutally execute the young night elf.

The war continued but the will of the great leader was sapped. The whole of Silithus was soon engulfed by the silithid and their Qiraji hosts.

Poor man, this explains much.

The night elf army was pushed back through Un'Goro, the the borders of the Tanaris desert. Something in Un'Goro prevented the Qiraji from being able to take the land. I do not quite understand this word but I believe it to mean 'God Lands.' It is stated that they could not 'take the God Lands.'

Fascinating, this coincides with theories of Un'Goro being the home of the Titans when they inhabited Kalimdor. Perhaps Aman'thul himself watched over 'The God Lands.'

Hrm, curious... This ends abruptly. In Tanaris the Qiraji document facing a bronze dragon. There is much missing from this... More information must be found! Surely they are planning to invade Kalimdor once more!

Baristolth of the Shifting Sands shifts uncomfortably.

Baristolth of the Shifting Sands says: When the time is right, my lady. All will be clear when the time is right. The master stirs even now. Look to the skies for the Brood of Nozdormu have returned.

Levelling my Paladin, I came up this .. Jade?.. statue buried in the ground. I assume it was a statue of someone important, buried during a war or something. I dunno. Struck me as "WTF"?

I've never heard an explanation for this one either. There are other similar (but smaller) elven archer statues around the same area as well. The size of this statue is damn near the size of the broken statue that is in Azshara, Ravencrest I believe.
